Mangalore, May 5, 2013: Voting for the Karnataka Assembly elections began in various polling booths across the district at 7 am on May 5. Initial reports say the voter turnout was 13 per cent by 10 am.


Voting is likely to pick up very soon. Voters can exercise their franchise till 6 pm as the Election Commission has extended the voting time by an hour.

Mangalore South Congress candidate JR Lobo along with his family exercised his franchise at St Theresa’s School. Lobo who spoke to media persons who were present outside the booth said he was confident of a win. Yogish Bhat and Krishna Palemar, BJP candidates from Mangalore South and North constituencies respectively, cast their vote in a polling centre on Jail Road.


Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza voted at Ganapathy High School, while MP Nalin Kumar exercised his franchise at St Aloysius School, Ladyhill.
