Politicians dividing society on religious lines : Puttige Swamiji

Udupi, Dec 8, 2012: Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt has blamed politicians for dividing the society on religious lines for their own selfish political  gains.                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

He was speaking after releasing a book “Islam Bhayotpadaneya Dharmavalla”, a Kannada translation of the Hindi book “Islam – Aatank Ya Adarsh” authored by Swami Lakshmi Shankaracharya, at Town Hall here on December 7, Friday. The book is translated by KM Ashraf and Shanti Prakashana are the publishers.

The Swamiji further said politicians were responsible for the growing problem of terrorism not only in India but across the globe. Stating that it was utterly wrong to blame the religion for the act of any individual, the seer said no religion in the world preached terrorism. He also deplored the media for using words like Islam terrorism and Hindu terrorism.

The seer further emphasized the need to organize programmes that build bridges of friendship and promotes harmony among people of different faiths.

Mohammad Kunhi, Manager of Shanti Prakashana, Gananath Ekkar, Head of the Post Graduate Department of Kannada  in Government College, Akbar Ali, member of the State Advisory Committee of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and  Nery Carnelio, Principal of Milagres College, were present on the occasion.

A seminar on “Present society amidst fear and illusions” was also held on the occasion.
