Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) H R Deshpande spoke on the occasion of the Police Martyrs’ Day held on the Police Grounds at Pandeshwar on October 21, Wednesday. He said that the increase in the number of police personnel who die in duty indicates that the violence and crime in society is on the rise.
He was full of praise for the people friendly programmes launched by the DK police and urged the public to utilize these programmes and enhance their bond of trust with the police. Deshpande also regretted the fact that the film world was giving the wrong picture about the lives of policemen. He said: “The lives of police officials as portrayed in films is a far cry from the lives of real life officials.”
Dr. Subramanyeshwar Rao, the superintendent of police, read the names of 833 police personnel who had laid down their lives in the past one year. Senior police officials such as the Inspector General of Police (western range) Gopal Hosur and Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj were present.
