Play ‘Gandhi Banda” based on Nagaveni’s controversial book staged in city

Mangalore, Apr 26, 2014: The play ‘Gandhi Banda’ based on a book by the same name authored by H Nagaveni which was caught in a controversy some tme bac, was staged at the AB Shetty Auditorium on April 25, Friday evening. The book has been adopted to play by Rangamantapa of Bangalore and has been directed by Champa Shetty.
‘Gandhi Banda” has been staged in Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi and Odisha and has won appreciation. Rangamantapa will stage ‘Abhijnana Shakuntala’ at Govinda Dasa college, Suratkal on April 26, Saturday evening and at MGM College Udupi on April 27, Sunday.
The book ‘Gandhi Banda’ was caught in a row after it was prescribed as a text book for third semester BA courses in Mangalore University and the University directed the author to delete some contents after the Vishwakarma community and some other communities objected to the use of some words in the book. The University had asked the author to reduce the book to 190 pages from 400 pages.
