Mangalore, January 24: St Vincent Ferrer church, is 75 years in the service of humanity the valiductory celebrations commenced in avery unique manner on Sunday, the 23rd January. A very tall (around 45 ft) areca tree was raised (Madi ubharunche) in the middle of the church compound at 7.30 A. M. in the presence of the elders who have been part of this parish from its erly times.The elders blessed this occasion recollecting memorable history of the establishment of the church. The traditional ‘madi ubharunche’, programme was definitely nostalgic of the significant past and greatly appreciated in these modern times.
The yellow and white buntings to announce the grand platinum jubilee celebrations were also tied to the areca tree by the members of ICYM unit of Valencia parish - giving it the appearance of a versatile ’May Pole’. Valencia parish choir group sang ‘Viva Valencia’ the melodious platinum jubilee hymn which was composed to mark the opening celebrations of 75 th Jubilee a year ago on 26th January 2010.
Valencia parish priest Fr Bonaventure Nazareth prayed for all those who worked hard for bringing up the church right from its inceptions to the present. The hard work of the parishioners and well wishers of the parish who stood and continued to stand by the parish was warmly acknowledged. Assistant parish priest, Fr Roshan Crasta , the members and office bearers of Valencia Parish Council and parishioners were present for the occasion. The grand finale is set for Wednesday, 26th January.2011.
