Mangalore, May 25, 2012 : The Pandeshwar police arrested Vidya Dinker, convener of the Citizens Forum for Mangalore Development, and four others near the DC’s office on May 24, Thursday for their involvement in the protest against the alleged dumping of mud into River Phalguni by MSEZ workers while widening the road in Kuloor.
The group had visited the DC to discuss this issue with him, but the discussion turned into an argument and Vidya Dinker allegedly pushed the DC. The police rushed to the spot and arrested the five at 5:30 p.m.
The police arrested Jacintha, Godfrey, Latha, and Arun D’Souza along with Vidya Dinker and registered a case against them. They might produce them before the district magistrate this night.
B. V. Seetharam of Karavali Ale, Asha Nayak of Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and Muneer Katipalla of DYFI visited them in the police station.
The MSEZ, which had suspended work for a few days, resumed it on May 24. Earlier today, the local people flocked to the work site, protested, and tried to stop them. The Panambur and Suratkal police arrested 70 of them and released them later.
