Bantwal, Nov 24, 2013: District in-charge Minister and State Minister for Forest and Ecology B Ramanatha Rai has called upon Gram Panchayat members to work with more dedication and determination towards rural development.
Addressing a mega convention of Gram Panchayat Representatives held at Rangoli Auditorium of BC Road on November 23, Saturday, he said the Panchayatraj System has contributed a great deal to the society and added that the reservation system enabled people of all strata of society to be a part of the Panchayat administration. The conference was jointly organised by the DK District Gram Panchayat Representatives Federation, and Sugrama Gram Panchayat Elected women Representatives Association.
Earlier,MP Nalin Kumar Kateel who inaugurated the convention urged the government to provide an annual grant of Rs one crore to every Panchayat.
UT Khader, State Minister for Health, Koragappa Naik, DK Zilla Panchayat President, Moidin Bava, Shakuntala Shetty, Legislators, Tulasi Maddineni, ZP Chief Executive Officer, Bantwal Taluk Panchayat President Lalitha Shivappa Naik and several others were present.
Identity cards were distributed to Gram Panchayat members symbolically on the occasion.
A memorandum highlighting the 25 point demand of the GP members was presented to DK District Minister to be forwarded to Panchayatraj Minister HK Patil. The demands include implementation of recommendations of Third Finance Commission, higher grants to Panchayats and higher honorarium to GP members.
