Mangalore, Oct 1: District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar laid the foundation stone for the Tulu Bhavan, which is to be constructed in Urwa, on Oct 1 Saturday, at a special ceremony jointly organized by the Tulu Sahitya Academy and the Kannada and Cultural Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Palemar said that the Tulu Bhavan should not be another concrete building, but should function for the development of Tulu language and culture. Suggesting that the Tulu Bhavan should conduct Tulu courses for the public, he urged the Tulu-speaking community to contribute funds for the construction of the Bhavan.
Tulu Sahitya Academy President Dr. Palthady Ramakrishna Achar said that the government has agreed to release Rs. 4.8 crore for the Bhavan, of which Rs. 2 crore has already been released and the rest will be released halfway through the project.
The Tulu Bhavan will comprise 3 stories with parking space, office space, meeting space, and guest rooms.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Speaker N. Yogesh Bhat promised Rs. 10 lakh from the MLA’s quota for the building. Regarding other developmental projects, he said that a Ranga Mandir will be constructed at Bondel and a mini soudha worth Rs. 4 crore will also be built.
MLC Bharathi Shetty, MLA U. T. Khader, and Seetharam Kulal, the former president of the Tulu Sahitya Academy, were also present.
