Mangalore, August 22: District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar inaugurated Vanitha Vana, a women’s park at Hat Hill near the offices of Air India on Aug 22 Monday. 


Speaking on the occasion, he said that the park, which is set in 1.5 acres of land, is expected to attract a number of visitors in future. He said that land might be acquired in future to expand this park, which is meant to protect and preserve the environment. Rs. 2 lakh each from the MP’s fund, MLA’s fund, and the district-in-charge minister’s fund will be earmarked for the development of this park.

Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the CEO of ZP, said that Mangalore has 28 parks and that Rs. 45 lakh has been earmarked for their development. Vanitha Vana is devoted to women and children and has been designed by Venkatesh Pai of Pai Lands, he said, adding that the landscaping cost Rs. 25 lakh and that the park has been well provided with seating facilities. 


There are plans to upgrade the park with a library for women and children, a health centre, light instrumental music, radio office, and other facilities, enabling women to spend some time alone or in the company of friends in the park. Women security guards will also be appointed for the park, he informed. 


N. Yogesh Bhat, the deputy speaker; MP Nalin Kumar Kateel; Mayor Praveen Anchan; Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak; former mayor Shashidhar Hegde; and others were also present.
