District Minister-in-charge J. Krishna Palemar will lead a march in Mangalore to collect flood relief funds on October 7, Wednesday. He addressed media people at a press conference.
Mr. Palemar said that the fund collection march will commence at the deputy commissioner’s office. Officers of various departments and several representatives of the people, divided into 4 groups, will march along the main streets of Mangalore for around 2 hours.
Moreover, the tahsildars will collect donations in their respective taluks and give receipts for the same. Palemar urged people not to give old clothes and old utensils, but donate something new or money to the people who have suffered a great loss. President of BJP State Unit D. V. Sadananda Gowda said that the MLCs, MPs, and MLAs, along with others associated with the BJP, will donate one month’s salary toward the flood relief fund.
The recent floods in Karnataka have claimed 206 lives and wrecked property worth Rs. 16,500 crores. Over 3 lakh houses and crops growing over an area of 25 lakh hectares have been destroyed. Mr. Palemar expressed his concern for the sufferings of the people who have lost their all in the floods.
