PHILS manufactures ODC equipment in new Baikampady plant

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, March 7, 2012 : The Mumbai-based company PHILS has manufactured over dimension cargo (ODC) equipment to purify crude oil in Baikampady industrial area.

firm 1PHILS Manager P. V. Attavar told reporters that PHILS has constructed a new plant in Baikampady to manufacture ODC equipment.

Although PHILS has two plants in Mumbai, it was not possible for the company to manufacture ODC equipment in those plants owing to the cost of transportation and other difficulties.

Since Baikampady is close to Panambur, it is easier for the company to move the equipment in Mangalore. PHILS’ new plant in Baikampady is 80-m long, 21-m wide, and 11-m high and is the company’s third plant.

Mr. Attavar said that the Japanese company Toyo Engineering ordered the equipment from PHILS.

This equipment is used to process and purify crude oil and is made of mild steel in accordance with client specifications. Mr. Attavar said that he cannot reveal more information because oil companies do not disclose these details.

The equipment was transported via a barge to Indian Oil Corporation, Paradip, Odisha from New Mangalore Port.  S. Gopalakrishna, the traffic manager of NMPT, said that this was the biggest ODC that the port has ever received. The equipment will take 3 weeks to reach Paradip. It was brought to the port from Baikampady by road at night, he informed.
