Mangalore, Nov 10, 2013: Former High Court judge Justice MF Saldanha has opined that the Sowjanya rape and murder case should be investigated under the leadership of a senior judicial officer from the district.
Speaking to reporters here on November 9, Saturday, Justice Saldanha said though the government has handed over the case to the CBI following mounting pressure, the already overloaded investigation agency may taken over ten years to complete the probe.
Continuing, he said that it would also not be practical to seek a CBI investigation under the direct supervision of the Supreme Court. An investigation under the supervision of a senior judicial officer may be able to submit report within four to five months,he observed.
Referring to the over 434 unnatural deaths in a rural area within a span of ten years, Justice Saldanha urged the media to highlight the injustice done to the poor by the influential forces.
He described as revolutionary the formation of a state Police Complaints Authority as per the direction of the Supreme Court.
PB D’Sa, State President of PUCL who also spoke said a protest would be staged if the district level committee members for the Authority were not appointed within one month period.
