In his protest address, Mr. Chengappa said that the Mangalore Bar Association will be the first to raise its voice against any unjust act in Mangalore and in India. He also remarked that Indians are yet to get their freedom although 65 years have passed after the country got its political independence.

Flaying the union government, he said that it is involved in a number of scams such as 2G Spectrum, Commonwealth Games, land scams, and so on. The government has rejected the Lokpal Bill presented by the Lok Sabha for nine times in Parliament, giving various excuses and without submitting the proper reports, he said.

Stating that the Mangalore Bar Association does not support any particular political party, Mr. Chengappa said that the association is against public representatives who loot the country’s wealth. One cannot even get one’s work done in government offices without giving bribe, he added.

Later, the members of the association submitted a memorandum to PM Manmohan Singh through DC Dr. Channappa Gowda.

The Jayakarnataka Association of Mangalore also organized a protest in front of the DC’s office to extend support to Team Anna. The protestors also burned an effigy of PM Manmohan Singh.
