One arrested in connection with Sowjanya murder case

Beltangady, Oct 12, 2012 : The Belthangady police, on Oct 11, Thursday, have arrested a man in connection with the Sowjanya rape and murder case.

Sowjanya (17) was found raped and murdered near Pangala two days back.

The arrested is Santhosh Bajagoli of Bajagoli in Karkala. According to reliable sources, he admitted that he raped Sowjanya, but did not kill her.

Furious local people stopped the police jeep, which was taking the accused to the police station, to turn Bajagoli over to the public. The angry mob also pelted stones on the police jeep, but the police somehow managed to escape from them and took Bajagoli to the police station for interrogation.

The local people gathered in front of the Belthangady Police Station and demanded that the police should hand over the accused to the public. The police were forced to use their lathis, in the course of which one of the protestors was injured and had to be rushed to the local hospital for treatment.

The KSRP force was deployed to Belthangady to control the truculent locals.
