Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Eshwarappa said there was no need to attach any significance to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s visit to New Delhi. Mr. Yeddyurappa was going to Delhi to lobby with the Central Ministers to clear the projects related to the State. “There is no question of taking BJP MLAs to Delhi either now or in the future,” he said.

He said that the BJP was not bothered about the allegations being levelled by the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy against Mr. Yeddyurappa. “He has no work, hence he routinely makes such baseless allegations”, he said.

On the fast undertaken by the Pejawar seer against the alleged pollution caused by the thermal power plant of Udupi Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL), Mr. Eshwarappa said that he would convince the seer to give up his fast. The UPCL would be directed to take steps to stop the alleged pollution.

Due importance would be given to environmental protection. “I am sure this problem will be solved. I will act as a bridge between all the concerned parties,” Mr. Eshwarappa said.

Convention

Later addressing a convention of chiefs of local BJP committees (shakti kendras) of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, Mr. Eshwarappa said that the party had been forced to undertake “Operation Lotus” in the initial stages for the stability of its Government.

But the independent MLAs and MLAs from other parties who joined the BJP had little knowledge either about its ideology or organisation. They had joined the BJP for the loaves and fishes of office. Finally they indulged in conspiracies against the Government.

As a disciplinary measure, the party had thrown out 16 such MLAs, the party State unit president said.

Ports and Environment Minister Krishna Palemar, BJP leaders Nalin Kateel, Raghupati Bhat, Lalaji Mendon, Yogish Bhat, Srinivas Poojary and others were present.
