New Udupi Diocese to be erected on Oct 15: Fr. Stany B. Lobo

Udupi, Oct 13, 2012: Fr. Stany B. Lobo, chairman of Udupi Diocese Installation Committee, announced at a press conference held at Milagres Cathedral on Oct 13, Saturday that the erection of Udupi Diocese and the installation ceremony of its first bishop Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo will be held on Oct 15, Monday.

Revealing details, he said that the bishop designate and special guests will be grandly
welcomed at the entrance of the cathedral at 2:00 p.m, after which the bishop will enter the
cathedral and sit on his chair for the first time.

A mass will be held on the grounds of the cathedral with Bishop Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo as the main celebrant and Dr. Salvatore Pennacchio, apostolic nuncio in India, as the principal prelate. Dr. Bernard Moras, archbishop of Bangalore Archdiocese; Dr. Ignatius Pinto, retired archbishop of Bangalore Archdiocese; along with 300 priests and 35 bishops will take part in the holy mass.

The Udupi diocese will be erected and the bishop will be installed during the holy mass.

A public reception program presided over by Dr. Salvatore Pennacchio will be held
after mass. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore Diocese, will deliver the
welcome address. The guests of honor will be Dr. Bernard Moras, archbishop of Bangalore Archdiocese; Dr. Ignatius Pinto, retired archbishop of Bangalore Archdiocese; Shri Shri Shri Sugunendrateerth Swamiji of Puttige Mutt; Dr. J. J. Sadananda, CSI bishop of Mangalore; Oscar Fernandes, general secretary of AICC; Udupi District-in-charge Minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary; K. Jayaprakash Hegde, MP of Udupi – Chikmagalur; MLA Raghupathi Bhat; DC Dr. M. T. Reju; KMDC Chairman Aboobakkar N. B.; Kallianpur GP President Sunitha S. Poojary; and others.

The members of the Udupi Diocese Installation Committee were present at the press conference.
