Naravi, Oct 10, 2012: The statue of Fr. Faustine Corti, architect of Naravi church, was taken in a grand procession on the occasion of the Founder’s Day celebrations at Naravi parish on Oct 9, Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore Diocese, said that Fr. Corti had worked tirelessly for 21 years to build the church and the parish.
MLA Vasanth Bangera and Rev. Fr. Eugene Lobo SJ also spoke on this occasion. Nearly 28 priests, including Vicar Var Fr. James D’Souza, were present.
Ravindra Poojary, president of Naravi GP, flagged off the Founder’s Day procession, which began at Naravi Bus Stand and ended at the church.
After a solemn mass, meals were served to the people.
Fr. Faustine Corti of Switzerland arrived at Mangalore in 1884 and spent several years in this city. He served the people of Naravi for nearly 21 years. He was also well-known for his social service in places such as Moodubidri, Shirthady, Arva, Alangar, Peradi, Nellikar, Ujire, and others.
