Mangalore, Aug 17, 2012 : Shamina Shafiq, member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), alleged on August 17, Friday that C. Further speaking about the SCW’s report, she said that C. Manjula’s report is not only full of errors, but also defames the victims. She also said that the state government has not submitted the action taken report (ATR) to the NCW although the commission had requested it 15 days back.

Stating that C. Manjula’s report contains her own opinions, she said that she has spoken to two of the victims in the Circuit House yesterday and had met the other victims in their houses. She has also spoken to the owner of Morning Mist Home Stay and Seemanth Kumar Singh, the Mangalore police commissioner, she added.

Claiming that the NCW’s first step was to request the ATR from the government of Karnataka, she said that the NCW did not interfere because it felt that the SCW was investigating the case. The NCW is now waiting for a copy of the SCW’s report to find out if the SCW’s findings are appropriate.

She also said that, in the course of her inquiry, she found out that illegal activities have been taking place in the home stay from a long time.

Ms Shafiq said that she will submit a report to Mamatha Sharma, chairperson of the NCW, within 10 days and action will be taken on the culprits accordingly.
