Mangalore, June 25, 2012: N. B. Aboobakkar, chairman of the Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation Limited, urged minority communities to take advantage of government schemes.
Revealing information about various government benefits for minorities, he said that the government has earmarked Rs. 122.5 crore for minority welfare for the year 2012 – 13. Further, he said that the corporation is aiming at distributing Rs. 7.03 crore through various schemes to 3,972 beneficiaries in DK. A sum of Rs. 10.71 crore has been earmarked for Christian welfare under the Christian Development Scheme. He urged beneficiaries to apply for these schemes before June 30.
He said that the corporation will organize awareness programs in Sullia and Belthangady, during which it will also accept applications. Awareness programs will be held especially in these taluks because very few beneficiaries apply from these taluks compared to other taluks, he said.
The corporation is also aiming at providing bank jobs to at least 100 unemployed young people from minority communities through a banking training program. He said that 52 youth are already employed in ICICI and IDB banks through the corporation’s banking training program, which it has been holding from the past two years. Although this training costs Rs. 65,000 per person when the NIIT conducts it, the corporation lends Rs. 50,000 as loan and the candidate only has to pay Rs. 15,000, he said, adding that those who are now employed in banks earn more than 20,000 per month.
Further, he said that the corporation has earmarked Rs. 1.23 crore under the interest subsidy scheme for the benefit of Christians who took home loans in the district. If the loan amount is in the range of Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 5 lakh, the corporation will pay the interest from 2007, he said, adding that 164 families will get the benefits of this scheme in 2012 – 13.
He also said that 1,188 students belonging to minority communities will gain the benefits of Arivu Education Loan Scheme since Rs. 2.37 crore has been earmarked for this scheme.
He informed that beneficiaries can apply for the Arivu Education Loan Scheme and the Interest Subsidy Scheme any time.
