Mangalore, Dec 19, 2012: Muslim leaders in the District Congress have made a strong case for adequate representation to the community candidates in the ensuing Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters in Mangalore on December 19, Wednesday, Muslim Congress leaders including former mayor K Ashraf, SK Abbas and BH Khader placed forth a demand to choose Muslim candidates for at least two out of the eight Assembly constituencies in the district.
Abbas defended the demand placed forth by pointing out that there were four lakh Muslim voting population out of the total nearly 15 lakh voters in Mangalore LS constituency.
The leaders also made it clear that they have nothing against either Janardhan Poojari or Vinaykumar Sorake who are likely to get tickets for Lok Sabha elections, but said they will at the same time adhere to whatever decision the party took.
They also said they were not demanding any specific constituencies, but only want at least two Muslim candidates from the district.
