Mangalore, Jan 14,2013 : Eminent scholar and writer Prof. B.A. Viveka Rai has emphasized the need for Kannada writers and scholars to master many languages.
He was speaking after receiving the Pandit Muliya Timmappayya Award conferred on him by the Muliya Thimmappayya Shatamanothsava Samithi, Mangalore, Muliya Thimmappayya Smaaraka Trust, Muliya and Department of Kannada, St Aloysius College on January 13, Sunday.
Prof. Rai also recollected how several Kannada scholars of the past were experts in different languages and pointed out that even the renowned Manjeshwar Govind Pai knew as many as 27 languages. Knowing more languages will broaden the research horizon and contribute towards research, he added.
