Moodbidri police arrest man for harassing wife over dowry

Moodbidri, Aug 26, 2013: Moodbidri police have arrested a man for harassing his first wife over dowry  and marrying another women.

The arrested has been identified as Samiulla, a resident of Beluwai village.

Reportedly, Samiulla a driver by profession had married Shahina Banu, a resident of same village in 2008.  During the wedding, Shahina’s parents had given Rs One lakh and 25 pound gold ornaments as dowry as per his demands. 

Later, Samiulla ordered his wife to get the amount of Rs 2.5 lakhs from her parents to establish a hotel business. But when Shahina refused to get it, he sold her gold ornaments and started a business and returned home only after incurring loss in it. The finance company also seized Samiulla’s vehicle as he failed to repay the loan.

Samiulla sent Shahina back to her parent’s house and bring Rs One lakh again. But now he has married another girl from Thokottu, said Shahina.

She also said that Moodbidri police had refused to register her complaint on dowry harassment; hence she had to privately file complaint in the court on July 15, 2013. Now as per the court order, Moodbidri police have registered a case and have arrested Samiulla, she added.
