Moodbidri cops arrest 6 tipper thieves

Moodbidri, Aug 27, 2013: Moodbidri Police have arrested a total of six persons in connection with the theft of a tipper from Mastikatte near here a few days ago.

Those arrested are Ummar Farooq(37) of Karnad, Mohammad Javed (25) of Katipalla, Abdul Khader Janveer(37), Munna alias Abdul Khader (19) of Jokatte and Pachu alias Prasad (21) of Savanoor.

The theft was reported on the night of August 18 when a tipper owned by Tenkamijar Gram Panchayat Member Suresh Mijar which was parked on the roadside at Mastikatte was stolen. It is learnt, the six persons had planned to sell the vehicle to a scrap merchant in Bangalore. But, the GPS fitted in the tipper helped the cops trace its location and the police seized the lorry at Hirisave near Hassan with the help of the police there.

Two of the accused Mohammad Javed and Munna have been remanded to judicial custody while the rest have been sent to police custody.

Interrogations have revealed that they had stolen six lorries from various places of the district and had sold them in Bangalore.
