Moodbidri: Cop suspended for obscene calls to woman complainant

Moodbidri, Sep 3, 2025: A police staff member attached to Moodbidri police station has been suspended on charges of harassing a woman complainant through obscene calls and messages.
According to sources, a married woman from Thodaru near Moodbidri had visited the police station on August 23 to file a complaint regarding a domestic dispute. Inspector Sandesh had summoned both husband and wife, mediated between them, and closed the case.
However, it is alleged that police staffer Shanthappa obtained the woman’s phone number from her complaint copy and began contacting her from August 25 to September 1. The woman accused him of repeatedly calling, sending messages, speaking obscenely, and even asking to meet her.
On September 1, the woman returned to the station and filed a complaint against Shanthappa, also submitting call records as evidence.
A case has been registered against him at Moodbidri police station, and he has been placed under suspension from service.
