Moodbidri, Apr 4, 2012 : Shanthakumari (6), who had gone missing from Bangalore, was found in Muramelu in Mariyadi in Moodubidri on April 3 Tuesday.

mood girl 1The 6-year-old, who is of Tamil origin, was found wandering in Bangalore Railway Station by Shakunthala, who also hails from Tamil Nadu. When questioned, the girl refused to reveal any information about her parents.

Believing her to be an orphan, Shakunthala took the girl to her house in Muramelu in Moodabidri. However, the girl started crying for her parents shortly after she was brought to Moodabidri.

Local people started gossiping and the matter soon reached the ears of Bhasker, a social worker based in Taccode, who informed the media and the Child Welfare Department. Local TV channels broadcast the news, after which Shanthakumari’s aunt in Bangalore called the Moodabidri Police and told them that the child is the daughter of Kanchana, her sister. She also requested the police to send the child to Kashinath, the child’s grandfather, who lives in Mulky.

A missing person case was already registered in the Bangalore Police Station.

Shortly thereafter, Kashinath went to Moodabidri and received his grand daughter in the presence of PSI Ramesh Kumar, the tahsildar, and Bhasker, among others.

Shakunthala had a tough time convincing the police that she took the child to her house out of kindness. Fortunately for her, the SI let her off with a warning and explained to her the consequences of taking home a lost child.
