Mangalore. Oct 8, 2012: Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) Limited is making plans to establish an environment friendly corporate office in Paradigm Plaza at Attavar Balakrishna Shetty Circle. Mescom’s plans include the utilization of solar power to reduce its dependence on grid power.Mescom’s solar power project, which is the brainchild of its former MD Vijayanarasimha, has reached a stage where estimates are being made. As soon as the project reaches the stage where tenders will be called, the company will come to know exactly how much its project will cost.
The company wants to generate 25KW solar power to meet the requirements of its corporate office. Surplus power generated will be sent back to the grid.
Vijayanarasimha, who is now the MD of Karnataka Vidyuth Karkhane, said that the roof of the corporate office has enough place for solar panels, adding that they made minor adjustments to the structure of the building to make it fit for holding solar panels. He explained that roof tops are usually unfit for holding heavy loads.
Stating that Mescom’s architects have made the roof top strong enough to hold solar panels, he said that the company can produce enough power for its office use and send the surplus, if any, back to the grid.
