Mayor and Dy Mayor Felicitated by BEM School

Mangalore, March 13, 2012: In deed it was a red letter day for newly elected  Mayor Gulzar Banu and Dy.Mayor Amitha Kala when the management of  BEM School and the Past Pupils Association honoured the  two leading edge Citizens of Mangalore. It is wonderful to note that both of them are old students of this pioneer Educational Institution. Not only was the occasion nostalgic for both of them, their mentors in the School, but it was thrilling to see the enthusiasm and example that the celebration gave to the young students of this ancient School set to celebrate 175 years of service to the needy in 2014. It seems an expression bringing to reality the Motto of the School "Heavens Light Guide us". It must be noted that the students, teachers and all concerned of this institution come from all communities of the area without exception and stand in gratitude for what they have received to develop life and move forward.

The President of the School Management Walter Maben was very articulate in expressing the joy of the BEM educational institutions that both the Mayor and Dy Mayor are past pupils of the School. Gulzar Banu left the School in the 70’s and Amitha Kala in the 80’s. In fact it is unique that from thousands of students who have crossed the portals of this premier institution - which caters to the ordinary citizens of Mangalore and supports the marginalized to gain better standards in life - many have attained lofty reputations and positions not only in the Country but world wide too. He exhorted the new dignitaries to good to the city and humanity in the best traditions of the institution and shine in their future. The senior teachers of the School who know both the honoured too blessed them and advised them to continue good and honest work and rise to great heights. The old student association leaders and several aged distinguished members were proud to felicitate and honour the duo in unprecedented terms.

In the emotion charged acceptance speech the Hon Mayor and Dy.Mayor said that words could not express the gratitude they felt towards their Alma Mater which is like a home to them and promised to never forget the good they have reaped from their study in the institution. It was a very touching scene to see the affection and emotion that prevailed through the function which will  hopefully also inculcate a sense of peer example to the many students of this ancient School - BEM on Car Street Mangalore.
