Mulki, October 19, 2010: A large number of people flocked to the Mulki cemetary on Tuesday, October 18th 2010, to pay their respectful homage to the renowned singer Max Karkada, who had gained great popularity for singing like Jim Reeves.
Renowned singer Max Karkada, proprietor of McAlloys, Ujjodi, Mangalore, died of cardiac arrest at the age of 47 on Oct 18, Monday.
Max’s voice has a striking resemblance to the voice of Jim Reeves; but this was not accidental. He had achieved the resemblance by practicing hard for several years. He got together with a group of Jim Reeves fans in 2003 to rejuvenate the magic of Jim Reeves. The team organized a number of annual Jim Reeves shows on July 31, his death anniversary. These shows became very popular in the Gulf as well as in coastal Karnataka, drawing crowds even from Kodagu.
On July 31, 2009, Max and his team had presented a live performance at Bharath Mall to mark the 45th death anniversary of Jim Reeves. On Aug 1, 2010, they had presented another live performance at Hotel Ocean Pearl.
Max fell unconscious immediately after witnessing the flames on his employee’s dress. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital by the people around them. But, unfortunately doctors declared Max dead.
The Haleyangadi-born Max worked in the Gulf for a few years before starting his own business in Mangalore.
