The ceremony was held at Kalaangan by placing the oldest of Konkani folk instruments “Gumat” in the hands of a statue, which symbolizes the common Konkani man. This was done by Ronald Colaco, the chairman of the reception committee, and Narayan Kharvi, the president of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.

Eric Ozario, the gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, gave a formal “vovlik” (invitation) to the Konkani people to support the mammoth cultural event, which is being organized with the intent of showcasing the richness of Konkani language, culture, and heritage.

Speaking on the occasion, Ronald Colaco said that one need not be a fanatic in order to support the Konkani cause. Pointing out that the Konkani-speaking communities of the gulf are able to gather huge crowds for any Konkani programmes, he said that Mangalore, being the native place for a huge chunk of the Konkani-speaking population should be able to draw larger crowds for such events.

Extending all possible support from the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Narayan Kharvi said that the Konkani Niranthari, which was organized by Mandd Sobhann, took Konkani to the international stage by creating a Guinness World Record. He lauded the commitment, dedication, and perseverance of the Mandd Sobhann team.

Mr. Eric Ozerio expressed his gratitude to the members of the organizing committee, who have worked ceaselessly for the success of this mammoth event, the well wishers, and supporters for their support.

Louis Pinto, the president of Mandd Sobhann; Rony Crasta; Stany Alvares; and Arun Raj Rodrigues were the dignitaries on the dais. The Ozerio couple sang several popular Konkani numbers to entertain the audience and the Naach Sobhann group presented a number of dance performances.
