The ANF encountered Naxals about 7kms into the depth of the forest and there was an exchange of firing between the two groups.

Reportedly, the Naxal died in the encounter. ANF personnel found traces of two grenades on the spot.

Alok Kumar, ANF commander, and Forest Observer Damodar entered the forest through the Subrahmanya to Gundya Road on the morning of Wednesday.

Another team, under the leadership of SP Subhash Gudimani, ASP Anuchet, and other officers, also visited the place. Yet another team, under the leadership of Puttur Tahsildar Kulle Gowda and SI Prasanna, also visited the spot to collect details.

According to some sources, the deceased is Kuppeswamy of Tamil Nadu. The body has been taken to Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore for post mortem. The encounter took place on the border of Subrahmany in Yalasoor in Hassan.

At present, only vehicles belonging to the media, the police, and ANF personnel are allowed on the Subrahmanya to Bisile Road. Since the place is 7kms from the Bisile border and owing to the heavy rains, the police are finding it difficult to enter the area. Moreover, the thick forest and the presence of leeches are making their work more difficult than ever. It is believed that the Naxals will find it difficult to escape because of the place is sandwiched between Kotesaru River and Addahole Stream.
