Manipal gang rape : Medical report confirms sexual assault, says IGP

Udupi, Jun 26, 2013: Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy has informed that the medical report of the medical student of Manipal University who was allegedly gang raped on June 20, Thursday night, has confirmed that the student was sexually assaulted.

 

Speaking to reporters here on June 26, Wednesday, the IGP said that the Manipal University too has announced that it would additionally reward with Rs 3 lakhs to anyone who can give information regarding the three accused in the case. It may be recalled here that the police department has already announced a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh to informers, thus taking the total reward amount to Rs 5 lakhs.

Pratap Reddy stated that over 47 people have been questioned  in the case so far. He also claimed that the police department has gathered vital clues and exuded confidence that the culprits would soon be nabbed. He further said the model of the autorickshaw used for the crime has also been identified and need to be confirmed.

He said the police department has received full co-operation from various sources including the Manipal University in the investigation.

The IGP informed that the police were gathering crucial information from the victim through Kundapur DySP Yashoda.

The IGP, when asked about the spot where the crime took place, said  the department was 99 per cent sure , but not 100 per cent.

Dr Boralingaiah and Abhishek Goyal, SPs of Udupi and DK respectively were also present.
