Mangaluru, August 9, 2025: The Sri Venkataramana Temple, Mangaluru observed Shravana Shukla Purnima with the traditional “Samudra Puja” (Sea Worship), a ritual deeply rooted in coastal cultural and religious practices. The ceremony, held with great devotion, is performed annually to seek the blessings of the sea for prosperity, safety of fishermen and protection from natural calamities.
As part of the observance, the temple authorities and members of the community carried out the “Swarnatengu” (golden coconut offering) and ksheera samarpane (milk offering), signifying gratitude, purity and the fulfilment of vows. The offerings were made in a ceremonial procession from the temple to the seashore, accompanied by devotional singing and traditional music.
The event drew participation from devotees across the city, with the temple trustees, and prominent community leaders taking part in the rituals.
