Mangaluru, Aug 20, 2025: The Mangaluru city police have raided two sports shops in Ullal and Bunder and seized 300 counterfeit items.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) H.N. Mithun told reporters here on Tuesday that the raids were conducted following a complaint by Stephen Raj, South India regional head of Brand Protectors India Private Limited.
The city police raided Sports Winner outlet in Ullal on Monday and seized counterfeit badminton rackets, volleyball balls, and footballs of popular brands worth ₹3.5 lakh.
In the ongoing raid at the Mahadev Sports Centre in Bunder on Tuesday, the police have so far seized counterfeit items worth ₹5 lakh, Mr. Mithun said.
As per the preliminary investigation, the police have found out that these goods were supplied from Jalandhar in Punjab. Investigation is on to find the dealers and the suppliers.
‘Be cautious’
Asking people to be cautious while buying sports products, Mr. Mithun said people should check the 3-D hologram, texture, colour, and batch number while buying “Yonex” badminton racquets, “Cosco” volleyballs, and “Nivia” footballs from sports stores.
If they find any suspicious product, customers can register a complaint and the police will take action, Mr. Mithun added.
