Mangaluru, Aug 26, 2025: Nitte (Deemed to be University) inaugurated its flagship Nitte Climate Action Program (NCAP) 2025 on Monday at the K.S. Hegde Medical Academy Auditorium, bringing together academic leaders, government officials, and students to address the challenges of climate change.
Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Mr. Darshan H.V., IAS, was the Chief Guest. In his address, he stressed the urgency of tackling environmental issues at the community level. “Climate change is not a distant threat; it is a reality affecting our communities right now. The NCAP is a commendable initiative that will empower our youth to build a sustainable future,” he said.
Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) G. Sriniketan, former IIC President of Nitte University, highlighted the vital role of education in shaping climate action. “Educational institutions must lead the charge against climate change by fostering research and innovation for lasting global impact,” he remarked.
Presiding over the function, Prof. (Dr.) M.S. Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor of Nitte University, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “The Nitte Climate Action Program is a testament to our resolve to nurture climate-conscious citizens and leaders,” he said.
Other dignitaries present included Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Registrar, Prof. (Dr.) Suma Ballal, Deputy Registrar & SDG Cell Coordinator, Dr. Vinayaka B. Shet, Member Secretary of the SDG Cell, and Mr. Shashi Kumar Shetty, NSS Coordinator.
The program, organized in collaboration with the NSS unit of NitteDU, Dr. M.R.S.M. English Medium High School, Thokur, and MRPL, Mangaluru, will feature awareness campaigns and sustainability projects across campus and local communities.
A special session on NCAP for students was conducted by Dr. Nesara Kadanakuppe, Associate Professor, Nitte Institute of Communication.
