Mangaluru, Aug 16, 2025: A shocking incident occurred on Wednesday when a gang abducted a gold merchant in a car and robbed him of 350 grams of gold.
The victim, identified as Srihari, owns a jewellery shop in Kerala. On August 13 at around 7 a.m., he arrived at Mangaluru Central Railway Station from Kerala by train, carrying a 350-gram gold bar. As he stepped out of the station and was waiting for an autorickshaw, a group in an Innova car approached him, claiming to be Customs officials. They allegedly told him, “We need to inspect you, get into the car.”
When Srihari refused, they forcibly pushed him into the vehicle. The gang then drove via Udupi to Kumta–Sirsi, where they robbed him of the gold bar worth about Rs 35 lakh. Later, they abandoned him in Antravalli village near Sirsi and fled.
Deeply shaken, Srihari returned to Mangaluru and lodged a complaint at the Pandeshwar police station. The police have registered a case and begun their investigation.
