Mangaluru: Golden Jubilee celebrations of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union inaugurated

Mangaluru, Aug 6, 2025: Media can bring about social transformation if it functions objectively and impartially, said former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Union at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall in the city on Wednesday.

 

 

 

 

 

“The media should not be biased toward a single viewpoint; it must present factual information to society. The misuse of social media is alarming and needs to be discussed during this Golden Jubilee event. While print and electronic media are regulated, social media operates without any control, leading to its misuse,” he added.

Mangaluru City South MLA Vedavyas Kamath presided over the programme. Press Club President, Harish Rai welcomed the guests. Union President, Srinivas Nayak Indaje delivered the keynote address, while former president K. Anand Shetty spoke about the journey of the association.

 

 

As part of the celebrations, the prestigious Golden Jubilee Honorary Award was conferred on Dr. M. Mohan Alva, President of Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri.

Editor-in-Chief of Kannada Prabha, Ravi Hegde, and former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel released the special commemorative edition ‘Madhyama Bimba’, while NRI entrepreneur Zakaria Jokatte unveiled a documentary.

The event was graced by Mangaluru City North MLA Dr. Y. Bharath Shetty, Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik, Adani Group President Kishore Alva, and former Mayor K. Divakar as chief guests.

A seminar on ‘Present and Future of Media’ was also held on the occasion, with senior journalists B. Ravindra Shetty and Walter Nandalike presenting papers, and senior journalist Ravi Hegde chairing the session.

Among those present were Press Club Trust President Ramakrishna R., Abu Dhabi-based entrepreneur Jayaram Rai, former Media Academy member Jagannath Shetty Bala, Kanara Chamber of Commerce President Anand G. Pai, Global Bunt Association President Aikala Harish Shetty, former Mangalore Press Club President Annu Mangalore, District Information Officer B.A. Khadar Shah, KUWJ State Executive Committee Member Ibrahim Adkathsthala, Association Vice President Bhaskar Rai Katta, Treasurer Pushparaj B.N., and many others.

Mangalore Press Club President and Golden Jubilee Committee General Convener P.B. Harish Rai welcomed the gathering, while General Secretary Jitendra Kundeshwar proposed a vote of thanks. Journalist Dinesh Ira compered the event.
