Mangaluru: Failed meat tender leads to alleged plot to poison animals - Pilikula director

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Aug 12, 2025: Pilikula Biological Park Director Dr. Prashanth Pai has lodged a complaint at Kavoor Police Station alleging that a former contractor, upset over losing the meat supply tender, conspired to kill the park’s animals by mixing poison into their meat.

The park recently awarded the meat supply contract to a new vendor. On August 7, an employee of the previous contractor allegedly called a park staff member, instructing them to mix poison into the meat supplied by the current contractor so that it would be rejected. The aim, according to the complaint, was to poison and kill the animals.

The park’s veterinary officer, Dr. Divya Ganesh, first reported the matter to the park’s director on August 8. Upon inquiry, staff member Harish revealed that in the past, meat for the park’s wild animals was delivered by Abbas and Hanif under instructions from Khader, the previous tender holder. This year, the contract went to a different bidder.

Harish alleged that on August 7, Hanif called him and suggested adding rotten or poisoned meat to the current supply to create grounds for rejecting the present contractor. The plan, Harish said, was to deliberately kill the animals to achieve this.

Police have been given an audio clip of a conversation between Harish and Hanif regarding the alleged plot. The complaint requests a thorough investigation, including examination of Abbas and Hanif’s mobile phones, to identify all those involved and uncover the conspiracy.
