Mangaluru: Construction workers protest over shortage of laterite stones and sand

Mangaluru, Aug 18, 2025: Construction workers staged a protest in the city on Monday, demanding a solution to the shortage of laterite stones and sand, which has severely affected the building sector.

The protest was held under the leadership of CITU and AITUC. Despite heavy rains, the workers marched from Ambedkar Circle to Clock Tower, where they organized a protest meeting.

 

Raising slogans against the district administration, the government, and elected representatives, the protesters accused them of failing to address the crisis.

They stated that the shortage of construction materials had left many labourers without work and urged the authorities to take immediate measures to ensure a steady supply of stones and sand.

Leaders such as Yadav Shetty, Vasanth Achari, Karunakar, Ravuchandra, Janardhan Kuthar, and Keshav Bangera also took part in the agitation.
