Mangaluru, Aug 20, 2025: The 34th Konkani Recognition Day was inaugurated on August 20, 2025, at Kalanganam, Shaktinagar, under the joint auspices of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Mandd Sobhan Sanstha.
The celebrations began with a colorful procession featuring the Konkani flag. Former Manapa member Ranganath C. Kini, the chief guest, hoisted the flag and addressed the gathering. He said, “It is heartening to see children and youth participate in such large numbers. Their talents will be showcased here today. May your efforts to preserve and promote the Konkani language continue to flourish.”
Academy President Joaquin Stany Alvarez welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory address. He recalled that Konkani, one of the 22 official languages of India, was officially recognized on August 20, 1992, and urged the youth to draw inspiration from this milestone.
Also present were Mandd Sobhan President Louis J. Pinto, along with Academy members Naveen Lobo, Rony Krasta, Dayananda Madkekar, Sapna Krasta, and Akshata Naik.
The event featured various recreational competitions, with 19 teams from across the undivided district participating in the high school and college categories. Academy member Samarth Bhatt served as the master of ceremonies.
