Mangalorean arrested at Kochi airport for smuggling cigarettes

Cochin AirportMangalore, Jan 17,2013: Customs officials at the Kochi International Airport have seized 359 cartons of cigarettes worth Rs 6 lakhs from two persons including a Manglorean on January 16, Wednesday.


The arrested are Kunhi Mohammad Majeed from Mangalore and Mohiuddeen from Gulbarga. They were detained when they landed at Kochi from Dubai by a Gulf air flight.


The cigarette cartons  were concealed in their bags. This is the second time that smuggling cigarettes has been detected at the airport. There is a suspicion that a group from Kasargod was involved in the same.
