Mangalore University to open PG Study Centre in Udupi: CT Ravi

Udupi, Jan14,2013 : State Minister for Higher Education and DK District in-charge Minister CT Ravi has informed that Mangalore University has decided to open a post-graduate study centre in Udupi district.


ct 1Speaking to press persons here on January 13, Sunday, the minister said a suitable location would be selected for the centre and added the Udupi MLA  K Raghupathi Bhat has suggested a land at Kolalgiri near Brahmavar, while Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon has recommended a place at Belapu. 


The Government would  move ahead on this proposal on the basis of the report of a university level committee, he added.

 

The minister informed that the state had a total of 360 first grade colleges of  which 194 were started in the past five year period.


The number of government engineering colleges has gone up to 15, while there are 181 private engineering colleges, he said and added the government has plans to increase the number of government engineering colleges.


He said there were presently 10 medical colleges while seven  more are yet to get the cabinet nod. The Minister further informed that a  record Rs 330 crore grant has been provided to the higher education sector ever since the BJP government has come to power.


 On selection of candidates for  the ensuing elections, he said  presently a list of 150 candidates is ready and added that there was no confusion. He further made it clear that there was also no confusion over appointing state BJP President.


K Raghupathi Bhat, Udupi MLA,  Udaykumar Shetty, Udupi District BJP President and others were present.
