Mangalore, Nov 11,2013 : Mangalore University has been chosen for the prestigious Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme (IGNSS) Award for the year 2012-13.

The Award will be presented by President Pranab Mukherjee at a ceremony to be held at Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi on November 19, informed Prof. TC Shivashankera Murthy, Vice Chancellor of the University.
Speaking to reporters here on November 10, Sunday, he said this was the first time that the University has been chosen for the coveted award in the past 33 years. He informed that the University which had targeted to enroll 14000 NSS volunteers had exceeded its target by enrolling 16,900 volunteers.
He said the University was selected for the Award in recognition of the various activities undertaken under the leadership of Dr Gananatha Yekkar, NSS Programme Co-ordinator. He said the NSS unit of the University will be headed by Dr Vineetha Rao for the period 2013-2016.
