Mangalore, Jan 28, 2013: Nine outstanding personalities received the Sandesha Awards 2013 of the Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education and the institute premises on January 27, Sunday.

The awardees are Vijay Kumar Kodialbail (Tulu literature), Leo D’Souza (Konkani literature), Kumbara Veerabhadrappa (Kannada literature), Dr K E Radhakrishna (best teacher), Fr Valerian Mendonca (Konkani music), N Arjun Dev (journalism),Hamsalekha (cinema/TV) and  Jayalakshmi Alva (art). 


A Special Recognition Award was presented to U C Paulose of Seon Ashram Trust.
 Dr Henry D’Souza, Bishop  of Bellary and  Chairman of Sandesha Foundation,Pratap Reddy, IGP of Western Range, conferred the awards carrying a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a citation.


In his address, IGP Pratap Reddy said Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education was rendering a yeoman service in preserving the culture and traditions  and also in identifying and honouring talents. On the growing intolerance in the society on various issues, he said  there was a  greater than ever need at present to promote peace and harmony in the society.


Bishop Henry D’Souza who also spoke said there was a need to  bring about a change for good in the society and urged the  society to work towards that direction.


The Awardees also spoke on the occasion. Director of Sandesha Foundation Fr Victor Vijay Lobo, Dr Narasimha Murthy,  Head of the Department of Kannada, Gokarnanatheshwara College, Roy Castelino, P M Castelino and Fr Jayanathan shared the dais.  Dr Na D’Souza, Chairman of the Sandesha Awards committee were also present.


A variety of cultural programmes including   a Kannada play by students of Rosario College and folk dances by students of St Jerosa High School and Vidyajyothi High School, Vamanjoor, entertained the audience.
