Mangalore, Jan 26, 2013: District in-charge Minister CT Ravi has stressed the need for effective measures to combat Naxalism and Terrorism which are aimed at dividing the country.


Delivering the Republic Day address after unfurling the national tri-colour at Nehru Maidan on January 26, Saturday, he said  every citizen of the land must pledge to defeat the disruptive elements  and lead the nation towards progress.

The Minister had a word of praise for the state government when he said the government was working  with a genuine concern for the welfare of the state and to uphold its culture and tradition.


Recollecting the contributions of Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian constitution,  Ravi said the  efficiency of the Constitution is  determined by the way in which the principles enshrined in it are implemented.


Earlier, the  Minister received the guard of honor in an open jeep. Teams comprising the traffic police,  civil police, the PSI, the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), NCC Army Junior, NCC Navy Junior, Guides, Road Safety Patrol, Bharath Seva Dal, and others participated in the march past, accompanied by the police band.


Students and achievers from various fields were honoured on the occasion.


MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Deputy Speaker of legislative assembly N Yogish Bhat, IGP Western Range Prathap Reddy, MLA U T Khader, Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar,  Mangalore City Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar,  Deputy Mayor Amita Kala,  MLC Monappa Bhandary, SP  Abhishek Goyal, ,  Additional DC  K Dayananda,  and others were present on the occasion.


The Minister also inaugurated the Vintage Car Rally and an exhibition of old models of two-wheelers including Jawa, Royal Enfield, Fantabulus, Lambretta and Yezdi organized by the Mangalore Motor Association under the guidance of Sudhir B. K.
