Deepak Poojari said despite a ban on plastics, some types of bags which have plastic content are sold in the markets and demanded that these too should be banned.

On the other hand, Naveen D’Souza, Congress Corporator complained that no strict action was taken by the MCC officials against some shops which were still found selling plastic bags.
Harinath, also a Congress Corporator, had something else to say. He said many who had refrained from using plastic bags for the first few days, have once again begun using the same.

He emphasized the need to sensitize students and the general public on the need to shun plastic bags. He also complained that no step has been taken to collect segregated plastic wastes.

Responding to the complaint, Harish Kumar, MCC Commissioner said tenders have been invited for the same and the new system would be implemented very soon. A helpline number will also be provided, he added.

The issue of the proposed toll gate near NITK and Suratkal also figured at the meeting and corporators including Revathi K and Naveen D’Souza said as per rules toll gate cannot be constructed within city limits. They even requested the Mayor to stall the proposal.

The Mayor later assured the corporators that she would address a letter to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard.
