Mangalore, Dec 27, 2012: Around 1000 students from the Departments of Physiotherapy and Allied Sciences from various colleges took out a peace protest rally from Jyothi Circle to DC Office on Dec 27, Thursday, condemning the brutal gang rape of a   physiotherapy student in a moving bus in the national capital recently.

Addressing the protestors, Dr U T Ifthikar Ali, Academic Council Member of RGUHS said the Indian Association of Physiotherapists strongly condemned the outrageous act “We will fight till justice is delivered and the accused are punished so that it serves as a warning to perpetrators of such acts in future,” he said.

Rithu Chauhan, a student of Physiotherapy who hails from Jaipur, said the protest was organized not only to demand justice to the gang rape victim but also to create awareness among the women folk so that they can be cautious enough.”Women in the country don’t feel safe on the streets or anywhere else, after this incident,” she said. She further added the nation needed laws which award death sentence to rapists.

Dr Umashankar Mohanty, President of IAP, Dr Mohammad Suhail, Member Secretary, RGUHS and others were present.

Physiotherapy and Allied Sciences students from KMC, Srinivas College of Physiotherapy and MV Shetty Colleges participated in the protest rally.
