Mangalore, May 15, 2014 : The ghastly Periyapattana road mishap that snuffed away nine lives of two families from Derlakatte, has left the entire area grief stricken. An eerie silence pervades the town which is mourning the sudden demise of nine persons, all due to the recklessness of an LPG cylinder laden track that rammed into the Tempo Traveller.

Tragedy struck the families of PH Mohammad, a Beedi worker and his friend Amiruddin, a textile merchant who had set out on a pilgrimage tour to Tamil Nadu. After a happy tour they were returning and were scheduled to reach their homes on May 14, Wednesday morning. But fate had something else in store for them.
Among the killed was 15 month old Shamoon who was a heart patient. One of the deceased Asiyamma had lost her eldest son Mustafa in a road accident a few months ago.
Of the eleven injured, the condition of six including Zeenath, Bushra, Safa Razia, Hafeez and Ifaaz are serious.
State Health Minister UT Khader on coming to know about the tragedy ensured that the affected got all possible assistance. Even senior Congress leader met the bereave families and consoled them.
The funeral of the deceased was held at Badria Masjid at Derlakatte, Faisal Nagar and at Asai Mosque in the presence of hundreds of mourners.
