Mangalore, Dec 11, 2012: Mangalore City Corporation in association with Prajna Counseling Centre, Malabar Gold and Diamonds and Prerana Women’s Self Help groups launched a sanitation awareness drive at Town hall on Dec 11, Tuesday.
N Prakash, Deputy Commissioner, inaugurated the drive. He also released handouts and launched eco friendly bags.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that Mangalore is considered a clean city compared to other cities.MCC too has won awards for its efforts in maintaining cleanliness, he pointed out and said further more good work can be done with organizing such kind of campaigns.
Sheena Shetty, ombudsman for the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) said that sanitation drive must be considered as a sanitation Yajna.He urged the people to say no to plastic bags and consider purchasing, throwing and burning plastic bags as a sin.
Mayor Gulzar Banu, Deputy Mayor Amithakala, MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar, Prajna Counseling Centre Director Prof. Hilda Rayappan and others were present on the dais.
