Mangalore, Nov 30, 2012 : Several nursing staffs from Kerala have complained against Shafi Shoukat who cheated them after promising to provide them with visas.

Addressing the press at Press Club on Nov 30, Friday, Nishad P., one of the many victims of Shoukat, said that several nurses came to know that Shoukat is arranging visas. Some of them approached him in Dec 2011 at his office in Deralakatte opposite Yenepoya Hospital.

Further, he said that Shafi promised to arrange visas and told them to undergo pre-medical checkups. Shoukat also demanded Rs. 1,80,000 and the nurses agreed to pay it even when he told them they had to pay an advance sum of Rs. 45,000 through NEFT to his wife’s account. Once the amount was paid, they got receipts from Shoukat, who also returned their original documents and receipts.

A few days later, Shoukat contacted them and demanded Rs. 10,500 for attestation of certificates, which the nurses duly paid.

In March 2012, when they wanted to know the status of their visas, he asked them to submit their original SSLC marks card, Plus 2 marks card, and nursing diploma certificate, which they submitted. A few days later, he assured them that their visas will be ready in 15 days, and when he was contacted again in June 2012, he told them that he needs two more days. Finally, the staff at his office began disconnecting their calls and threatening them whenever they called.

The accused claim that they have good contact with police officers. They have cheated 200 people, 27 of who have lodged complaints against him for taking Rs. 55,000 for visas with the IGP and the police commissioner. The higher police officers have asked them to complain at the local police stations, but the local police are not taking any action against the conmen, they complained.

Several victims of Shoukat such as Sudhakar N. S., Vinil V. Kumar, Adarsh Ravi, Soni Thomas, and others were present.
