Mangalore, Jan 18, 2013: Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress (KKMC) has urged the government to increase the maximum compensation under the arecanut rejuvenation package to Rs 1.25 lakh.
Speaking to reporters in Mangalore, Sachin Meega, the Vice President of KKMC has urged the state government to implement the arecanut package on the basis of the Gorakh Singh Committee report.
He pointed out that it was impossible to rejuvenate arecanut farming with the maximum compensation package of Rs 30,000 at the rate of Rs 6000 per acre announced by the Central Government.
He even complained that the inadequate staff in the Horticulture Department has made it difficult to effectively implement the package in DK and Chikmagalur districts and urged to fill the vacancies at the earliest.
